Can you get a real estate license in a state you don’t live in?

Good news for you because Ohio is actually very lenient when it comes to real estate license reciprocity. Currently, it acknowledges licenses from Connecticut, Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Mississippi, Wyoming, and West Virginia.

If you are a licensed real estate agent from any of the above 8 states, then the process of getting the Ohio license becomes much more simplified, and here is what you will have to do.

  1. Make sure that you submit your application requesting reciprocal licensing in the Ohio Department of Real Estate, and you will pay a fee of $135
  2. Provide proof that you did complete the pre-licensing course in an institution that is recognized by the Ohio Department of Real Estate
  3. Complete a background check and get approval from the Ohio Real Estate Commission2
  4. Provide a letter of recommendation from the previous state where you had your license
  5. Take and pass the state section of the real estate licensure exam
